La Cantina le Lupe Restaurant Review

La Cantina La Lupe restaurant opened in June 2014. It offers authentic Mexican cuisine in Zurich’s lively Kreis 4. This is not your standard tex-mex food and you won’t find any fajitas or burritos on the menu.

Atmosphere: The dining room is kept in a deep pink with a few photos of Frida Kahlo and other Mexican idols. It hosts roughly 6 tables. Its charm lies in the restaurants simplicity which resembles a Mexican comedor. On a Friday night most tables are busy

The food: Have you ever heard of Mexican small plate cuisine? ¡Aquí Está! The menu features various quesadillas and tacos filled with everything from cheese to beef. The portions are small so plan to order 2-3 dishes if you don’t want to go home hungry.

We start with Huarache Azteca, a taco made of blue corn filled with salad, beans and cottage cheese as well as a plate of tacos with beef. The Huarache is excellent and a light starter, the Tacos are ok. We also order a Sopa Azteca with fried Tortillas and vegetables which is tasty.

The Tacos de Mixote are filled with marinated chicken and are very good. The quesadilla with mushrooms are a tad too oily.

The service at la Cantina la Lupe is friendly however slightly chaotic.Unfortunately the restaurant doesn’t offer any Mexican or South American wines. This is a bit of a letdown as it would have rounded off the authentic food quite well.

Conclusion: Probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Zurich.
