George Bar and Grill – Have they got game?
Zurich’s vivid gastro scene has recently seen a few new hip and trendy restaurants open up. Its latest addition is George Bar and Grill which opened in May 2014. The restaurant is situated on the on the 5th floor of the casino building and offers a beautiful view overlooking the roofs of Zurich
Ambiance : George’s bar is centered in the middle of the large panoramic room with the dining area on the left and a piano at the entrance. The interior is stylish and elegant. With its eclectic, hip furniture and décor this place could be anywhere in the world, Tokyo, Shanghai or Berlin…AT 7 am the bar area is bustling and the crowd is a mix of couples, bankers and tourists who are pleasantly whiling away over a glass of champagne.
After a drink at the bar we are led to our table.
The cuisine is helmed by Sören Bischof, previously employed with “Goodman” and the menu is a good mix of comfort food and grilled dishes. We opt for the herring with onions and a green salad. Both is ok.
For a main course we opt for the Tenderloin and truffled fries. The meat is good and the fries are fantastic. We also order a fried bream and spinach which is nothing special.
The best part of the menu awaits at the end. For desert we go for the poached pear with white chocolate mousse which is a culinary delight and at 6 Francs a real bargain.
Our meal is accompanied by a delicious Chateauneuf du pape.
During the course of the evening the restaurant and bar area fills up and is packed with a lively crowd.

Conclusion: What do we make of this eatery – well, the ambiance is trendy and the view is nice and goes along side similar establishments such as Cloud and Loft 5. The food however is a bit of a let-down. George’s Bar and Grill does not surprise you, rather it fulfills the expectations. Is this good or bad – we will leave this up to you to decide.
