Razzia Restaurant Review

A former cinema in Seefeld has been turned into a restaurant – and there is much more than popcorn on the menu.

In 1922 the restaurant was designed by Wilhelm Pfister-Picault and turned into a silent movie cinema. It was refurbished by Atelier Zurich this year and opened as a restaurant on 13 of May 2014.

Ambiance: The restaurant is an architectural gem. 6 meter high ceilings paired with an elegant décor and a glamorous 50’s atmosphere. The cinema screen has been left unchanged. The crowd is a mix of bankers, fashionistas and Zurich’s trendy urban crowd and there is the usual see and be seen going on that you’ll find in restaurants of the same league such as Seerose, Aura and the sort.

The food: Is it Italian, is it Fusion or is it simply a wild mix of trendy dishes? We cannot class it in. There are Italian dishes on the menu as well as a couple of Asian choices. We go for the carrot salad (light and fresh) and a green salad which is just that  – green salad leaves -however comes with a hefty price tag. For a main course we opt for the tuna steak wrapped in sesame with rice noodle salad which is very good and a beef skewer with vegetables which is solidly prepared but no culinary revelation.

For desert there is Crème brulee with Tonka beans combined with a berry mousse and pear compote. The crème brulee is light and creamy in texture however the pear compote’s acid flavor doesn’t pair that well with the Crème brulee. The service is charming and very friendly.

Conclusion: A stylish and hip restaurant which caters to the urban crowd. It is a good addition to Seefeld’s gastro scene. While the food is far from mind-blowing, it is the ambiance and history of this restaurant which distinguishes it from its competition

Tip: It is not easy to score a last minute table and for a Friday or Saturday night it is advisable to book 2 weeks in advance.
