Restaurant Review Heugümper Zurich

heugümper

Tucked away in a tiny alley, only steps from Paradeplatz a stylish yet cosy restaurant awaits. At Heugümper, German for grasshopper, guests are welcomed by  Pamela Pfoster’s Austrian charme. She and her husband have helmed this restaurant for years.

The ambiance: High ceilings, a tasteful, elegant and trendy yet traditional interior with comfortable and discrete seating – Heugümper offers the perfect surrounding for a business lunch or a romantic date night dinner…and that by itself is quite exceptional. The restaurant, complete with a small bar, can hosts approximately 20 guests. On a Friday night the restaurant is moderately busy.

The menu: The menu is concise – 13 dishes, with a similar-length wine list, featuring good quality wines served by the glass and bottle. To start, we cannot resist the salad with gamberoni which is presented artfully and tastes delicious. The esparagus cream soup is divine. As a main course we opt for a Loup de Mer with herb crusted on Mediterranean vegetables which is a piece of art on a plate and offers a great combination of Mediterranean flavours. The veal with Rösti tastes just like it should.

At the end we have to deny ourselves a desert due to a sheer shortage of space however glance enviously over to our neighbour table who have ordered a tempting Chocolate cake with Coconut Malibu Sorbet. Next time… Nevertheless, our coffee is served with mini strawberry cake and chocolate – delicious.

Conclusion: A great ambiance with warm and personal service and artfully presented cuisine…we will certainly return!
