For the 2nd time Kunstmuseum Winterthur hosts an impressive exhibition of Gerhard Richter. In 1999 it organized a retrospective of Gerhard Richter’s drawings and watercolors.

The current exhibition showcases works from more than 5 decades. At the entrance it features some of Richter’s earlier watercolors. The second part of Richter’s works is located in the new part of the museum and shows colorful strip paintings and works on glass, something Gerhard Richter has  been focusing on since 2008.The glass works are fascinating in its colorfulness and have been created by gloss paints poured onto a large acrylic glass surface which were then mixed.

His strip works on the other hand have been created by reproducing Richter’s abstract paintings which were first cut in half,  in quarters and so on until the strips were divided into finer strips which were then mirrored repeatedly.

Overall, the exhibition is a fascinating journey of Richter’s artistic development.

Not to be missed!
